Mission Moment #1

Singing the words of John 3:16 to the tune of Shine Jesus Shine (thankfully not solo) in front of a room full of teenage girls and a good number of my peers. I am most grateful that, despite the efforts of some of my 'friends', the moment was not captured on camera.

Mission Madness

Well, mission starts tomorrow. My chaplaincy group is off to two different schools to run mission alongside the chaplaincy staff in both. I'm really looking forward to it, particularly since school chaplaincy is a ministry I'm keen to consider for life after college.

However, I've just spent an hour working out where I need to be when throughout the week... and now I'm feeling just a wee intimidated. See... (the orange are those I'm speaking at... everything else are ones I'll be involved in to some extent!)

The F3 and Me

So I was driving back from Hawk's Nest last night after a brief 36 hour holiday. It was a 3 hour drive, 2 of which was spent driving at about 110km/hr in the pitch black along the F3. It's a long time to spend with your own thoughts:

• Must remember to water Laura-Lee's plant tonight when I get home
• Am I the only one actually sticking to the speed limit on this freeway?
• Hmmm - what will I do for dinner?
• Will I get a dog when I finish college?
• Why on earth would you build a roadhouse in the shape of Uluru?
• Oh! Can't forget car rego is due soon
• Glad I brought my U2 CD
• Wow - this is a looooooong freeway
• Wonder what TV show they are watching in that coach I just passed
• Gee it would be nice to be married and not always have to make these long trips by myself (pause here for moment of self pity)
• Argh! P-plate drivers - 110km/hr does not mean 140km/hr
• Wonder if that was an eel that Pelican was trying to eat today
• Must start thinking about kindness for this chick's chapel sermon on Tuesday
• Mum's birthday next weekend- must think of present
• My birthday in two weeks - must think of good present to ask for
• Really must decide what I'm going to do about dinner - getting hungry
• Mission next week - must work out what I need to write my 2nd talk on
• Hope my VCR actually taped Lost since the timer didn't work last time
• Policeman with speed camera on right- thank you cruise control
• If Rob and Amber keep winning each leg of The Amazing Race I don't think I can watch the whole thing
• Was I rostered on for something at church tomorrow night? Don't think so...
• What is that truck tyring to do!?!?! He's so close I can't even see his headlights!! Is he trying to kill me?!?!

Well it is in the box for better or worse ... I'm entirely convinced it will be the later of those two options!

I had to pull an all nighter to get it done. The strange thing is, however, that I don't really know what I did on it in the hours between 10pm last night and 6am this morning. Somehow I managed to work solidly that whole time (no, I didn't have any micro sleeps!) but I am completely bemused about what I did to it during that time. I mean I pretty much had all my content by 9.30 last night... I just needed to cull about 1000 words (eeek!) and clean it up, fix the footnotes and make sure it all ran smoothly. But that whole process apparently took me from 10pm-1pm with a 1 hr break at 7am to go to the gym.

Is there something funky going on around here? Was there some sort of wierd time warp last night? Do the small hours of the morning actually only consist of 30 mins each?

I'm confused. Really.

Although now that I think about it the confusement might have something to do with the fact that I've been awake for about 30 hours straight at the moment.
